What You Need To Know About Vaping In The UAE

Are you looking to replace regular tobacco use or wish to find a cleaner fix of nicotine while bypassing the many dangerous chemicals that come from puffing on a traditional cigarette? Choosing clean methods of inhaling nicotine is of utmost importance to safeguard your pulmonary health, and the closest you can get to that is by vaping.

Why Switch to Vaping?

Using E-cigarettes and other forms of vaporizers, also known as vaping, is one of the best alternatives to conventional forms of nicotine intake, such as tobacco cigarettes, and it may lower the risk of inhaling potentially harmful substances and possibly help quit smoking as well.

If you are new to the world of smokeless, non-tobacco cigarettes, it can be surprising how many benefits a person can have by switching from the traditional smoking experience to using e-cigarettes.

What is a Vape or Electronic Cigarette?

E-cigarettes are battery-operated smoking devices that release heated vapors of a solution containing nicotine and flavorings for the user to inhale. Vaping provides a similar sensation to inhaling tobacco smoke, without the smoke. Most e-cigarettes have refillable cartridges that are reusable and replaceable.

How Does it Work?

When a user switches on the e-cigarette and inhales air through the mouthpiece of the device, the battery gets activated and powers an atomizer (heating element) to emit aerosols or vapors that contains a mix of a propellant gas and particulate matter, including nicotine and other flavorings. To give more context, aerosols are produced under low air pressure and released as a fine spray by means of a propellant gas.

Types of E-Cigarettes

The electronic, smoke-free, smoking devices come in many forms – pens, cigarette look-alikes, e-hookahs, or even stylish tech gadgets. Although these electronic smoking devices are sold in a massive array of shapes, sizes and designs, they have similar mode of operation and contain similar constituents.

E-Cigarettes are the Best Alternative to Conventional Smoking

E-cigarettes do not contain the estimated 7,000 harmful chemical constituents present in traditional cigarettes. The chemical compounds and toxicants in the aerosol from e-cigarettes are lower in concentration than those present in conventional cigarette smoke. This means, an e-cigarette smoker does not have to interact with the toxic impurities and tars which appear when the tobacco burns inside the traditional cigarette. Moreover, the negative effects of conventional smoking are reduced because the body is tricked into interpreting it as doing habitual actions, while the results of vaping do not involve the destructive impact of harmful chemicals.

E-Cigarette Laws & Regulations in the UAE

The UAE officially legalized the sale and use of electronic cigarettes in April 2019, to curb the sale of unregulated e-cigarettes and ensure the nicotine components of vaping are 95% less harmful than traditional cigarettes. So, when purchasing e-cigarettes in the UAE, you don’t have to worry anymore about the safety of the device or ingredients used since vapes are now officially supervised and regulated.

Experts predict that over 64 million people will switch to e-cigarettes over the next three years and Dubai will provide a global platform for the industry, which is expected to be worth $53.4 billion by 2024.

Already a vaper in UAE or visiting Dubai for holidays? Make sure you don’t do the below!

Even though the sale of e-cigarettes and vapes have been made legal in the UAE, vapers need to keep up with the new vaping rules and laws in the country.

Anyone found vaping or using an e-cigarette in non-smoking zones or unauthorized areas in Dubai will be fined of up to Dh2,000. According to The National, The Health and Safety department at Dubai Municipality “will take the necessary measures to track down violators who smoke e-cigarettes in public places.”

Locations where vaping is banned include:

  • Places of worship
  • Schools
  • Universities & offices
  • Shopping malls
  • Hospitals, health and pharmaceutical facilities
  • Onboard airplanes as well as vehicles transporting food, medicine, fuel and chemicals

Are E-Cigarettes Taxed?

Yes, the Federal Tax Authority announced that a 100% tax will be applied soon to vapes and other electronic smoking devices soon in UAE. Vapes will also be subject to VAT.
